From the UK to the UAE, how unicorns are harnessing the power of technology to transform healthcare delivery

Clinical IT systems are a powerful tool that can enable the utilisation of digital technology to achieve high quality care delivery and revenue generation simultaneously. However, many organisations struggle to implement and embed these complex systems so that they deliver maximum benefit. This is where unicorns play an integral role; individuals with a unique set of clinical and technical skills that can harness the true power of clinical IT to improve patient outcomes and experience.

The National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom have developed a ground-breaking approach to developing clinical informaticians. The NHS Digital Academy equips digital leaders from clinical and technical backgrounds with a diverse range of practical skills to enable them to successfully achieve digital transformation.

Zainab Hussain, a clinical pharmacist by background, is an Associate Chief Clinical Information Officer at a leading hospital in London and international digital medicines management consultant. She will lead an interactive workshop looking at the core principles of digital health leadership and outlining how clinicians can achieve a career in clinical informatics.
