Pharmacy Informatics

Utilising clinical decision support and closed loop medication processes to improve medication safety, clinician experience and patient outcomes

Clinical IT systems are powerful tools that enable healthcare organisations to simultaneously achieve high quality care delivery and revenue generation. However, these systems are highly complex and have the potential to introduce new sources of error and user dissatisfaction. Prescribing and administration of medicines is a high-risk process that can have disastrous consequences, so it is imperative that the medicines management pathway is well-designed.

Zainab Hussain, a clinical pharmacist by background, is an Associate Chief Clinical Information Officer at a leading hospital in London and international digital medicines management consultant. Mohamed Magoury is a Pharmacist and Digital Health Expert; he is a Head of Pharmacy Informatics and Automation at Fakeeh Care group, a leading Saudi Healthcare provider and Acting Director of Pharmacy at Fakeeh University Hospital in Dubai. Together, Zainab and Mohammed will host an interactive workshop looking at the core design principles of electronic prescribing and medicines administration, incorporating the use of clinical decision support tools and pharmacy automation.
